Creswell Crags Festival of Victorian Archaeology (festival)

Location:Creswell Crags

Time:10:00:00 to 17:30:00

Creswell Crags hosts a time travelling weekend transporting visitors back to the 1870s. Visitors can join our archaeologist characters, Sir William Boyd Dawkins and Thomas Heath, on guided tours of our largest cave. Witness the exciting discoveries firsthand and the different perspectives created by the discovery of the first Ice Age artefacts in Britain. Other characters you can look forward to meeting include Mystic Bec our ‘finds fortune teller’ who will reveal the past present and future of different artefacts (for entertainment purposes only). The Olde Worlde WAG’s (wives of the Victorian archaeologists) will be wandering around giving their opinions to anyone who passes. Victorian activities and games such as Coconut Shy, Drafts, Noughts and Crosses and skittles will provide entertainment. Face painting will see children transformed into chimney sweeps, and Mimes. Weird and wonderful curios from Creswell Crags including pickled creatures and shrunken heads will be on show!
